Friday night the Marriott Northwest hosted the annual Minnesota Swimming High School Coaches Association All State Banquet. It’s a fun occasion to gather with the great coaches and swimmers in the state in an off-the-pool-deck setting and celebrate the accomplishments of the high school season. It really is so rare to see all the swimmers without a cap or with wet hair at a minimum. Minnesota swimming legend Tom Hodgson (University of St. Thomas) and Jenny Shaughnessy (University of Minnesota) gave amazing speeches as both were inducted into the Minnesota Swimming Hall of Fame, highlighting their journey and deep connections to the sport.
Athletes of the year went to Avery Lommel (Delano) for Class A Girls, Katie McCarthy (Edina) for Class AA Girls, Charlie Egeland (Breck/Blake) for Class A Boys, and Luke Logue (Eden Prairie) for Class AA Boys. This was the third consecutive year the award went to Katie McCarthy, capping off an illustrious high school swimming career for the Hornets.
Coaches of the Year were Nathan Meyer (Melrose) for Class A Girls, Dale and Megan Magnuson (Rochester Century) for Class AA Girls, Michelle Carlson and Brian Wright (Breck/Blake) for Class A Boys and Kelley Boston (Eden Prairie) for Class AA Boys.
