Prelims Recap
400 Individual Medley
Megan Van Berkom led the way for Minnesota with a 4:46.39, followed by Katie McCarthy in 4:49.61. The Gopher Van Berkom and future Gopher McCarthy both qualified for tonight’s B final.
On the men’s side, Gopher William Christenson finished in a time of 4:22.44, qualifying for tonight’s C final.
100 Butterfly
All three Minnesota women competing in the 100 Butterfly were seeded next to each other in the event’s second heat. Emma Kern, Taylor Williams, and Caroline Larsen lined up in lanes 3, 4, and 5, with Larsen touching the wall first in a time of 1:00.80, earning a trip back in tonight’s D final. Regan Smith, the 3 seed in the event, declared a false start and did not swim.
For the men, Jack Dahlgren shaved off some time from his entry and finished in 19th place with a time of 52.90. That time places him in tonight’s C final.
50 Breaststroke
Olivia Anderson posted the top Minnesota time in the 50 Breaststroke of 32.37, earning a swim in tonight’s C final. Caroline Larsen, doubling the sprint breaststroke in a quick turnaround from the 100 Butterfly, followed with a 32.55, which qualified her for the D final. Â
On the men’s side, Max McHugh put up a big swim in the final heat, but was disqualified after a video review for an illegal kick. It was one of many disqualifications of athletes competing in the breaststroke over the past two days, including 2nd seed Emma Weyant in this morning’s 400 IM for the same infraction. Charlie Egeland finished in a time of 28.75, picking up a D finals spot in this event.
50 Backstroke
Regan Smith, fresh off her US Open record swim in last night’s 200 Backstroke final, and Isabelle Stadden kept Minnesota front and center of the backstroke world in the 50 meter event. Smith, with a time of 27.44, established herself as the 2 seed heading into tonight’s final. Stadden, following last month’s wins at the TYR Pro Series in the 50 and 100 Backstroke, popped a lifetime best 27.64, good for the 3rd seed in tonight’s final. Aquajet teammates Emma Kern and Grace Rabb will be back in the D final this evening after posting times of 29.08 and 29.28 respectively.
