Team Outlook
Two Rivers will move up from Class A this season to join the section and to make room for them, Woodbury slides over to Section 4AA. For all the details of the section realignments, you can visit our previous article.
Eagan will go into the season the favorite to repeat as section champion. They lose a couple of scoring seniors but their core remains intact. The Wildcats will be led by seniors Miguel San Jose, Derek Bang’O, and Dobbin Chong. San Jose placed 2nd in the 200 Free and 3rd in the 100 Back, Bang’O placed 6th in the 50 Free and 3rd in the 100 Free, and Chong placed 6th in the 100 Fly and 3rd in the 100 Breast. Sophomore Louis Decattoire will also be a top contributor after placing 4th in the 200 Free and 4th in the 100 Free in 2023. Eagan also returns three state qualifying divers with senior Owen Kipp finishing 2nd last season and 4th at the state meet.
East Ridge placed 7th as a team at the state meet last season but will have to reload a little after graduating quite a few front-end seniors. Senior Neil Abrahamson was section champion in the 50 Free and section runner-up in the 100 Fly. Abrahamson went on to place 8th in both at the state meet. Junior Aidynn Havermann was section champion in the 200 IM and runner-up in the 100 Back. Havermann finished 9th in the 200 IM at the state meet. Senior Vincent Xiong placed 6th in the 200 IM at the section meet and followed that up with a 3rd place finish in the 100 Fly.
Other Notables
Rosemount senior Josh Sikorski placed 5th in the 50 Free and 2nd in the 100 Free in 2023 and will bolster the Irish relays. Fellow senior Sawyer Smith placed 3rd in the 200 Free and 8th in the 100 Fly last season. Senior Quinlan Schoeder returns after a 7th place finish in the 200 IM and was section champion in the 100 Breast. Quinlan placed 5th at the state meet in that event. Senior Spencer Rudd was the 5th place finisher in the 100 Back and will look to crack into the top 98 in the 200 IM after a 10th place finish in 2023. Rosemount also returns section and state champion diver in junior Lucas Gerten.
Park will be led by senior Mason Darling. Darling placed 5th in the 200 IM and 2nd in the 100 Breast. He went on to have a top 16 finish in the 100 Breast at the state meet. Fellow senior Jack Schweigert placed 8th in the 100 Breast at the section meet in 2023. Junior Parker Jeseritz was the 6th place finisher in the 100 Back.
Apple Valley returns leading team section point scorer Joven Langseth. The senior placed 5th in the 100 Fly and 4th in the 100 Back in 2023. Senior Josh Lee placed 7th in the 100 Back last season.
Hastings has an up-and-comer in sophomore Tristan Herbst. Herbst was 3rd in the 500 Free and 5th in the 200 Free in his freshman season. Hasting also returns junior Oliver Gergen who finished 6th in the 100 Free and 9th in the 50 Free.
Eastview will look to continue to rebuild behind an improving junior class.
Two Rivers will be led by senior Fin Gustafson. Gustafson should factor near the top of the 200 IM and 100 Free and provide a good anchor for the relays.
