2023 Winter Junior Nationals – Day Two

The first day of the individual events brings us plenty of swims from Minnesota swimmers across three events, the 500 Free, 200 IM, and 50 Free

500 Free
On the women’s side, Aquajets 16yr old Avery Luedke led all Minnesota swimmers with and 18th place finish in prelims with a time of 4:54.77, qualifying her for the C final. In the finals, Luedke dropped another 2.5 seconds finishing 18th with a finals time of 4:52.30. Ellie Bina from North Suburban placed 46th wit ha time of 4:59.73. Aquajets Ivy Solt finished right behind Bina in 49th place with a time of 5:00.44

For the men, it was Aquajets Jiarui Xue making the C finals with a prelims time of 4:28.16. In the finals, Xue moved up one spot to 17th with over a 2.5 second drop from his morning swim. Xue’s finals time was 4:25.52. South Metro Storm’s Ethan Kosin placed 50th with a time of 4:32.19 and Mako’s Andrew Hanson was 62nd with a 4:33.65 swim. Recent U of M commit Jayden Edmonson from Rochester placed 81st wit ha 4:35.53 and Aquajets Cash Walz finished 100th with a time of 4:39.11

200 IM
Four Minnesota women took to the pool in the 200 IM. Aquajets swimmer and Florida commit Grace Rabb was 2nd after finals with a swim of 1:57.61. She would finish 3rd in the finals session with a time of 1:55.64. Edina’s Cate Pawlaski finished 28th in the morning session with a time of 2:02.96 and Minnetonka’s Catherine Dueck placed 66th with a time 2:05.58. Rounding out the field was Aquajets Frances Muir, placing 121st with a time of 2:10.22

The men saw 9 swimmers in this event from Minnesota with Aquajets Henry Webb placing the highest with a 30th place finish and a time of 1:49.89. Other swimmers in the event were Isidore Warain (Aquajets) 1:53.11 (86th), Patrick Curran (Riptide) 1:56.33 (135th), and Cooper Krance (Storm) 1:57.16 (139th)

50 Free
Lots of action on both sides in the 50 Free tonight. For the women, Foxjet’s Caroline Larson secured the top seed after finals with a 22.01. She would top that swim in finals with a time of 21.93 and take home the championship in that event. Edina’s Adalynn Biegler made the B finals with a prelims swim of 22.96 which secured her 10th place. In finals, Biegler swam a 23.05 to place 15th. Other prelims swimmers were Arianna Zelen (Storm) 23.42 (44th), Libbi McCarthy (Edina) 23.47 (56th), Paige Moreen (Foxjets) 23,55 (68th), Libby Bakker (Aquajets) 23,62 (74th), Annabelle Wentzel (Aquajets) 23.85 (102nd), Julia Ogren (Rochester) 23.95 (116th), Cate Pawlaski (Edina) 24.28 (130th), and Catherine Dueck (Minnetonka) 24.34 (131st)

Aquajets Conner Hogan was the top finisher in prelims on the men’s side, placing 7th with a time of 20.21. In finals he went on to place 6th with a time of 20.00. Other swimmers in the event were Evan Witte (Minnetonka 20.66 (34th), Luke Logue (Aquajets) 20.90 (56th), Henry Webb (Aquajets) 20.98 (65th), Andrew Hanson (Mako) 20.98 (65th), Rohan D’Souza Larson (Edina) 21.50 (128th), Victor Trinh (Storm) 21,67 (140th) and Patrick Curran (Riptide) 21.83 (145th)

400 Medley Relay
The Aquajets A relay took 8th place with a time of 3:42.38. Avery Luedke led off with a 55.45, followed by Grace Rabb at a 1:01.14, Annabelle Wentzel at 54.21 and Carly Bixby with a 51.58.
In the men’s event, there were three relay teams from Minnesota. The Aquajets A relay placed 4th with a time of 3:13.26. Luke Logue led off with a 47.84 back, Jack Hackler followed with a 54.41 breast, Micha Davis was 46.93 on the fly and Henry Web anchored with a 44.08 free split. The Aquajets B relay of Jiarui Xue, Isidore Warain, Drew Ploof, and Connor Hogan placed 16th with a 3:18.96. hogan anchored the relay with a sizzling 43.89 split. South Metro Storm team of Ethan Kosin, Cooper Krance, Grady Evenson and Victor Trinh placed 26th with a time of 3:23.03.
