SEMS Lead Age Group Coach
SEMS is a 501©3 non-profit swim club based in Woodbury and Cottage Grove, MN. Our primary locations are the pools located in School District 833/South Washington County Schools. For over 50 years, SEMS has been an integral part of swimming in our community.
SEMS Mission Statement
The mission of SEMS is to cultivate a positive, safe, and inclusive environment of competitive swimming that is both challenging and fun, where we develop and reinforce good sportsmanship, work ethic, personal responsibility, and motivation for success.
SEMS Philosophy

3. Stroke technique development is the cornerstone of a swimmers ability to improve.
4. Swimmers are taught to understand their role in crafting and pursuing their own goals and physical development.
5. Swimmers are prepared and encouraged to compete in all swimming events, distances and strokes.
All members of the team are important to the development and success of SEMS.
Lead Age Group Coach Responsibilities:
• Serve as the lead coach for two training groups
• Communicate important information to other coaches, athletes, and parents
• Attend meets (1+ per month on weekends; some out-of-state travel expected)
• Attend staff meetings
• Work with staff to plan and implement our competitive schedule
• Maintain all required coaching certifications
• Mentor junior coaches
• Complete other administrative duties as assigned by the Head Coach
Basic Schedule:
• Practices 5 weekday afternoons/evenings each week, typically between 5pm and 9pm
• Potential for weekend practices
• Opportunity to assist/coach other groups as schedule permits
• 2-4 hours administrative work each week
Minimum Qualifications:
• Experience: Have a background in the sport of swimming and/or other athletics. Must have previous coaching experience.
• Certifications: Current USA Swimming Coach Certification in good standing or able to complete necessary components prior to start.
• Background Check: Must be able to successfully complete a background check.
• Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills for effectively teaching and motivating young athletes.
• Patience: A high level of patience and the ability to work with children of varying skill levels.
• Team Collaboration: Ability to work well with the head coach, other lead coaches, assistants, and support staff, and adhere to the team objectives for your group.
• Adaptability: Flexibility in adjusting coaching techniques to meet the needs of different swimmers.
• Time Management: Ability to manage practice sessions efficiently- Write progressive workouts, respond to emails, meet write ups, meet entries, etc.
• Safety Awareness: Keen understanding of and ability to enforce pool safety protocols.
• Flexibility: Adaptability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Compensation:
• Hourly pay commensurate with experience.
