Section Outlook
Two teams leave the section this year in 4th place Minneapolis Southwest and 5th place St. Louis Park. They are headed to Section 2A. Minneapolis Edison/Henry/North will join 6AA
Robbinsdale Armstrong looks loaded with talent. Lucia Freed dominated with 2nd in the 200 IM and 1st in the 100 Back. Maya Fadlalla (1st Sections/13th State in 50 Free, 2nd in 100 Free) and Ella Cooley (2nd in 50 Free, 1st in 100 Free) will return as juniors after a massive sophomore season. Mackenzie Woods had top-4 finishes in both the 200 IM and 100 Fly. Natalie Gustafson and Riley Sheffer scored in multiple freestyle distances, and Grace Hyland added depth in the 500 Free.
St. Paul Central features a strong core led by Imogin Forys, who won the 100 Fly as a freshman. Cecily Jones brings big points potential after placing 3rd in the 50 Free and 2nd in the 100 Back. Hannah Johnson (6th in Breast) adds to the returning firepower.
Highland Park/SPA returns key diver Avital Coleman, who placed 4th in 1m Diving as a sophomore and will look to climb the podium as a junior.
Hopkins remains deep across the board, especially in diving where Addi Walters (3rd), Ari Berglund (6th), and Josie Low (4th in 100 Breast) all return. Clara Kozlowicz, only a freshman last year, made finals in both the 200 IM (5th) and 500 Free (8th). Madi Olson adds versatility with top-8 finishes in the 200 IM and 100 Fly. They’ll also get a boost from young backstrokers: Avery Bulman, a rising 8th grader, placed 5th in the 100 Back, and Sadie Steckler finished 8th as a freshman—both showing promise for even bigger finishes in 2025. In the breaststroke, Emma Lundequam earned 7th as an 8th grader and will return with valuable section meet experience.
Minneapolis South & Roosevelt brings back Layla Pichler, a junior who made the A-final in both the 200 IM and 500 Free. Teammate Isis Pichler also scored in diving as an 8th grader, and both return for another shot.
Richfield High School/AHA will be led by Maddie Friel, who swept the 200 and 500 Free titles as a junior. Isabel Scrafford (7th in 200 Free, 7th in 100 Free) and Lila Martin (8th in 100 Free) provide crucial freestyle depth. Julia Parish (5th) and Lauren Erickson (8th) both return in the 100 Breast.
Washburn brings back standout diver Madeline Kohel, who won Diving at sections and state as a junior. She is also the current state record holder. Brooke Lundgren placed top-5 in both the 50 and 100 Free, and Parker Stob added more diving points.
