Section 3a will look significantly different this season.  Monticello moves up to Class AA and St. Cloud Apollo co-ops with St. Cloud Tech to form the St. Cloud Crush and also will be AA.  Finally, Hutchinson graduated 7 of their 16 athletes from last year’s team.  Prognosis….who knows???

Dassel-Cokato Litchfield returns a strong core, led by senior sprinter Dominic Borg, who was the Section champion in the 50 Free (11th grade) and placed 14th at State in the 100 Free. Matthew Defries, now a senior, adds sprint depth.

Delano-Watertown-Mayer is loaded with upperclassmen talent. Senior MacKay Hoglund returns after 11th and 16th place finishes at State in the 200 and 500 Free, while junior Gavin Pryde was a Section finalist in the 50 Free and 100 Backstroke. Oscar Hoglund (senior) brings diving power, placing 8th at State, and both Henry Becker and Luke Grosshuesch contributed key IM and Breaststroke results.

Hutchinson looks to be one of the top contenders in the section. Leyton Yerks will be a sophomore after placing top 8 in the 200 and 500 Free, while Billy Witte (junior) and Jared Templin (junior) bring strong mid-distance and fly support. Graham O’Neill, now a junior, adds consistency in breaststroke. Their depth and improvement trajectory make them one to watch.

Montevideo returns Nolan Christopher, now a senior, who took 7th at State in the 200 Free and 8th in the 500 Free as a junior. Hayden Blom, also a senior, is a top sprinter, placing 14th at State in the 50 Free, while Jaxon Wagner is a reliable upperclassman contributor in both the 50 Free and Breaststroke.

Matthew Fouquette, now a senior, was a Section champion in the 100 Fly and took 7th at State, making him one of the top returners. David Burns-Hawker (junior) adds support in sprint and backstroke events, offering potential relay impact as well.

Willmar has steady production across the board. Senior Samuel Sheets and Soren Newberg contribute in sprint and breast events, while Abram Schueler (junior) handles distance freestyle. With more depth this year, expect Willmar to move up in the team standings.
