Eden Prairie Controls Meet from Start to Finish Against St. Michael–Albertville

Eden Prairie delivered a complete team performance Friday night, using depth across nearly every event to earn a 107–73 varsity victory over St. Michael–Albertville at the Eden Prairie Community Center. While STMA produced several strong individual efforts, Eden Prairie’s ability to stack scoring finishes and dominate the middle of the lineup proved decisive.

The Eagles set the tone immediately in the 200 Medley Relay. Eden Prairie’s A relay of Jonah Watanabe, Eli Drewes, Jack Kevan, and Ryan Altawil touched first in 1:39.68, followed closely by Eden Prairie’s B relay in 1:43.85. St. Michael–Albertville’s A relay finished third (1:44.55), but Eden Prairie’s early relay depth created an immediate advantage.

That momentum carried into the 200 Freestyle, where Eden Prairie swept the top three varsity positions. Eshaan Salunke led the way with a winning time of 1:50.72, followed by Eli Drewes (1:53.55) and Dennis Demidov (1:56.72). STMA countered with points from Bradley Holmberg and Adam Miller, but Eden Prairie’s sweep widened the gap.

The Eagles continued to control the meet in the 200 IM. Zack McBeth earned the victory in 2:06.63, with teammates Evan Ebert (2:11.46) and Finn Aaberg (2:18.16) close behind. St. Michael–Albertville’s Kyler Williams finished fourth, but Eden Prairie once again stacked the scoring places.

Sprint speed favored Eden Prairie in the 50 Freestyle as Charlie Strehl won in 23.13, followed by Jack Kevan (23.52). STMA’s Dane Barthel placed third in 23.53, but Eden Prairie added further points through Aidan Harris, keeping control of the team score.

Diving provided one of the night’s few swings toward STMA. Nolan Frater captured the 1-meter event with a score of 175.55, edging Eden Prairie’s Gus Jacobson (170.05). STMA added additional points from Grady Robberson and Emmett Simon, trimming the margin slightly.

Eden Prairie answered emphatically in the 100 Butterfly. Eshaan Salunke returned for his second individual win, touching first in 54.70, while Aditya Madireddy added a third-place finish (1:01.16). STMA’s Henry Tillmann placed second (59.34), but Eden Prairie maintained a firm grip on the meet.

The 100 Freestyle continued that trend. Eli Drewes powered to the win in 50.60, followed closely by teammate Zak Ouachani (51.27). STMA’s Dane Barthel finished second (50.75), but Eden Prairie’s depth again proved decisive.

Distance racing belonged to the Eagles in the 500 Freestyle. Eden Prairie went 1–2 behind Dennis Demidov (5:06.98) and Jack Kevan (5:08.01), while STMA’s Bradley Holmberg finished third (5:19.81). The event further extended Eden Prairie’s lead heading into the relays.

Eden Prairie continued to pile on points in the 200 Free Relay. The A relay of Ryan Altawil, Will Cutting, Aidan Harris, and Zak Ouachani touched first in 1:34.22, followed by STMA’s A relay (1:35.95). Eden Prairie’s B relay added additional scoring, reinforcing the advantage.

The Eagles dominated the 100 Backstroke, sweeping the top three spots with Jonah Watanabe winning in 55.07, followed by Zack McBeth (58.10) and Will Cutting (58.29). STMA managed points through Gavin Beaudry, but the damage was done.

STMA produced a late highlight in the 100 Breaststroke, sweeping the scoring positions behind Kyler Williams (1:09.64), Crosby Simonson (1:12.68), and Remi Lee (1:14.52). Despite the sweep, Eden Prairie had already built a sizable cushion and swam this event exhibition.

The meet closed with the 400 Free Relay, where St. Michael–Albertville earned the final varsity event win in 3:41.64. Eden Prairie swam the relay as exhibition, having already secured the team victory.
