Lakeville North Wins Crosstown Showdown Over Lakeville South

Bragging rights were on the line Friday night as Lakeville North and Lakeville South renewed their crosstown rivalry in the pool, and it was the Panthers who came away with the upper hand. Behind depth across the freestyle events and key points in the middle of the meet, Lakeville North secured a 92–71 varsity victory over Lakeville South in a dual that featured plenty of head-to-head racing and momentum swings.

Lakeville South struck first in the varsity action, winning the 200 Medley Relay as Grady Evenson, Brendan Mattson, Aiden Nguyen, and Bennett Nesbitt touched first in 1:44.28. Lakeville North answered immediately with its A relay finishing second in 1:45.03, keeping the early rivalry tension tight.

The Panthers flipped the script in the 200 Freestyle, sweeping the top three spots behind Carter Trelstad (2:00.62), Asa Wilson (2:00.84), and Jonathan Colbert (2:03.84). That early depth swing gave Lakeville North its first significant edge of the night.

Lakeville South responded in the 200 IM as Grady Evenson delivered a strong win in 2:05.47, holding off Kellan Krance (2:07.09) of Lakeville North. But once again, the Panthers stacked points with multiple scorers to keep the overall margin in their favor.

Sprint speed continued to favor Lakeville North in the 50 Freestyle, where Luke Hoffman won in 23.00, followed by teammates Oliver Snaza (23.77) and Tyler Hultgren (24.53). Lakeville South picked up points through Aiden Nguyen and Bennett Nesbitt, but the Panthers’ sweep proved costly in a rivalry meet where every point mattered.

The diving event tightened things up, as Lakeville North’s Caleb Baldeshwiler edged South’s Breckin McGill for the win (204.70 to 198.20), with Matias Silva adding another scoring finish for the Cougars.

Lakeville South found momentum again in the 100 Butterfly, sweeping the top two spots behind Grady Evenson (54.47) and Aiden Nguyen (57.16). Still, Lakeville North limited the swing with solid finishes from Luke Hoffman and Rylan Sallander, keeping the dual within reach.

The 100 Freestyle turned into another key rivalry moment. Brendan Mattson won for Lakeville South in 52.18, but Lakeville North countered with second and third from Carter Trelstad (53.80) and Aiden Sorlie (54.69), continuing a pattern that defined the meet—South winning events, North winning the scoreboard.

Distance racing proved decisive in the 500 Freestyle. Lakeville North went 1–2 behind Kellan Krance (5:15.44) and Asa Wilson (5:40.47), creating one of the largest point swings of the night and pushing the Panthers firmly in control.

That momentum carried into the 200 Free Relay, where Lakeville North’s A relay of Snaza, Trelstad, Hultgren, and Hoffman surged to a win in 1:35.38, further widening the gap in the rivalry scoreline.

Lakeville South made a late push in the 100 Backstroke, as Brendan Mattson earned his second individual win of the night in 59.28, but Lakeville North once again answered with depth behind Aiden Sorlie and multiple exhibition swims that showcased lineup strength.

The 100 Breaststroke gave Lakeville South another highlight, with Brycen DeMaster claiming the win in 1:39.55, though Lakeville North had already built enough of a cushion to withstand the late surge.

The meet closed with the 400 Free Relay, where Lakeville South’s A relay capped the night with a victory in 3:33.30. Even so, Lakeville North entered the final event with the dual already in hand.
