Slavik Earns Another MIAC Weekly Award

MIAC Release

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Saint John’s senior Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska) was named the MIAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The honor is the fourth of the season and 10th of his career.

Slavik won two events with NCAA B-cut times and finished second in another as SJU finished sixth out of eight teams at Division II St. Cloud State’s three-day Rochester Invitational last Thursday-Saturday.

He won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:30.15, which surpassed the NCAA B-cut time of 4:31.24. He set the SJU record in the event last year with a 4:29.49. His time was nine seconds short of the DIII A-cut time and two seconds faster than the Division II B cut.

Slavik added his second B-cut time of the weekend in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:43.14 to win the event. He beat the cut time by nearly seven seconds – another event in which he set the SJU record (15:32.98) in at last February’s MIAC Championships. His distance swim was 13 seconds faster than the second-place swimmer from SCSU.

Slavik also finished second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:04.88) and was a member of three SJU freestyle relay teams, two of which finished in the top 10.

SJU returns to the pool in the New Year with the Luther Sprint Invitational at noon Saturday, Jan. 10, in Decorah, Iowa.
