Wayzata Takes Command Early, Finishes Strong vs. Chanhassen–Chaska

Wayzata used its depth to pull away from Chanhassen–Chaska on Tuesday night, earning a 111–74 varsity victory. While the Storm Hawks delivered several standout performances, Wayzata’s consistency through the middle of the meet proved decisive.

The meet opened with Wayzata striking first in the 200 Medley Relay. The Trojans’ A-relay of Benjamin Pei, Noah Landry, Jerry Lou, and Aleksandr Pershin posted a strong winning time of 1:39.04, immediately establishing momentum. Chanhassen–Chaska answered with a solid second-place finish from Sam Kvam, Noah Swanson, Ayden Pana, and Ethan Burd in 1:42.68, keeping the early score competitive.

Chanhassen–Chaska earned an early individual highlight in the 200 Freestyle as Izyndro Warain controlled the race and touched first in 1:48.92. Wayzata responded with depth, placing Tristan Farrey, Jacob Zolotov, and Andrew Lerdal in the next three spots to limit the scoring swing.

Wayzata regained control in the 200 IM, where Jerry Lou delivered one of the night’s fastest swims, winning in 1:56.18. Sam Kvam placed second for the Storm Hawks in 2:05.16, but Wayzata added additional points with Harrison Taylor and Aditya Nair to stretch the team lead.

Sprint speed further tilted the meet in Wayzata’s favor during the 50 Freestyle. Benjamin Pei won convincingly in 21.71, followed by teammate Aleksandr Pershin in 22.87. Chanhassen–Chaska stayed close with Logan Storms (22.97) and Ayden Pana (23.20), but Wayzata’s front-end speed continued to add separation.

The Storm Hawks countered on the diving boards, where Micah Brecht delivered a dominant performance to win the 1-meter event with a score of 241.40. Wayzata answered with second from Harper Fang (159.05), keeping the overall margin manageable.

Wayzata surged again in the 100 Butterfly as Jerry Lou doubled up with a decisive victory in 50.82. Chanhassen–Chaska added points through Sam Kvam (54.55) and Joey Petersen (57.07), but Wayzata’s depth continued to build its lead.

The 100 Freestyle followed a similar pattern. Noah Landry powered to the win in 48.69, with Wayzata teammates Jacob Zolotov and Aleksandr Pershin also scoring. Chanhassen–Chaska’s Bryson Hougas placed second in 50.90, providing one of the Storm Hawks’ strongest sprint performances of the night.

Distance racing belonged to Chanhassen–Chaska. Izyndro Warain returned to the pool to dominate the 500 Freestyle in 5:01.05, followed by teammate Ayden Pana in 5:08.64, giving the Storm Hawks a much-needed scoring boost. Wayzata’s Finn Kirven kept the Trojans in front with a third-place finish in 5:10.07.

Wayzata answered decisively in the 200 Free Relay, as Pershin, Caleb Tram, Kevin Donaghy, and Pei combined for a winning time of 1:31.07. Chanhassen–Chaska’s A-relay followed closely in 1:32.43, but Wayzata’s relay depth added valuable points.

The Trojans extended their advantage in the 100 Backstroke, sweeping the top two spots behind Harrison Taylor (57.37) and Finn Kirven (58.12). Chanhassen–Chaska’s Andon Schoenberger placed third in 1:01.63, limiting the damage.

Wayzata closed out the individual events with another strong showing in the 100 Breaststroke. Noah Landry claimed the win in 1:00.74, followed by Benjamin Pei in 1:01.96 and Caleb Tram in 1:05.31, effectively sealing the dual before the final relay.

The meet concluded with the 400 Free Relay, where Chanhassen–Chaska delivered the final highlight of the night. The quartet of Ethan Burd, Joey Petersen, Sam Kvam, and Izyndro Warain touched first in 3:18.05, edging Wayzata’s A-relay (3:20.50) to close the meet on a high note for the Storm Hawks.
