Knights win 13 events in convincing victory at St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Carleton College men’s swimming & diving team dominated from start to finish in a 225-68 men’s dual meet win over St. Olaf College on Saturday, winning 12 of the 14 races plus a victory in diving. Carson Rotter and Nicholas Chang both won two individual events.
 
Carleton started the swimming portion of the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as Chang, Luke Schmitzer, Warren Kozak and Neil Tollefson combined on a time of 1:37.70. All four Knights would prove victorious in individual events later in the session.
 
Rotter led a 1-2 finish in the 1,000 freestyle with a season-best winning time of 10:15.01, and Thor Pearson claimed the 200 freestyle in 1:49.01.
 
The Knights continued their run of victories with Erik Sun winning the 50 backstroke in 26.39, Schmitzer taking the 50 breaststroke in 28.29, and Jackson Rankin capturing the 100 butterfly in 52.77.
 
Tollefson claimed the 100 freestyle in 48.51, and Chang earned his first solo victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.07.
 
Rotter returned to the top of the podium in the 500 freestyle, touching first in 4:58.68, and
Kozak captured the 50 butterfly with a time of 23.54. Chang closed out his strong meet with a win in the 100 individual medley in 55.22.
 
Carleton capped the afternoon with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay as the “A” squad of Tollefson, Kozak, Noah Lee and John Rosseel won in 1:28.48, sealing the Knights’ commanding team triumph.
 
Hans Anderson pulled away for a win in the 1-meter diving competition, posting an 11-dive score of 308.05.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will host the Northfield Diving Invite on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Competition begins at 6:00 p.m.
