MSUM Handles Business Versus Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. — A day removed from a tough dual loss, Minnesota State Moorhead responded in a major way against Concordia College. The Dragons claimed the annual Eighth Street dual, defeating the Cobbers 183-36. 

The Dragons would quickly gather team points in the 200-yard medley relay as the team of Fernanda Leon, Maggie Moore, Joanna Phillips and Rose Urick would swim a 2:00.65 for a victory. MSUM’s team of Haley Stainbrook, Sophia Verke, Claire Schlaefer and Sarah Coe would finish runner-up at 2:01.58. Moorhead would also claim the top two positions in the 200-yard freestyle relay, led by a 1:47.73 time from the team of Kelsey Jackson, Lacie Stark, Adrianna Sullivan and Urick. 

Jackson would see an event win in the 1000-yard freestyle, marking an overall time of 11:40.04. Jackson would also win the 100-yard freestyle, swimming a 58:43. Anika Grunenwald would secure another distance win for the Dragons in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking a 5:47.99. Grunenwald would also win the 50-yard freestyle on Saturday, marking a 26.86. Phillips (27.15) and Sarah Coe (27.54) would place second and third respectively. 

Cami Mayo would collect an event win in the 200-yard freestyle, marking a 2:12.52, followed closely by Schlaefer at 2:12.87. Verke would lay claim to the 100-yard IM, swimming a 1:02.35 while Ruth Pavelski (1:09.27) placed third. Moore would win the 100-yard fly behind a time of 1:02.35 while Leon won the 100-yard backstroke at 1:02.97. Mayo (1:05.72) and Sullivan (1:08.59) would place second and third respectively. Leon would also win the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a 1:15.35 with Verke (1:16.60) and Pavelski (1:17.25) finishing second and third. 

In 1-meter diving, Zoe Bjerke would win the event behind a score of 231.35 with Isabelle Johnson (222.70) and Kennedy Olson (213.05) placing second and third respectively.

MSUM will conclude the dual season next weekend as they travel to take on Minnesota State on Saturday, January 31 at 1 p.m.
