Stormhawks Soar in Win Over Bearstangs

The Chanhassen–Chaska Stormhawks delivered a strong all-around performance Thursday night, using depth across the lineup and dominance in the sprint and relay events to earn a 117–68 varsity victory over the Breck/Blake Bearstangs. The Stormhawks controlled the meet from the opening relay and steadily added separation as the night progressed, while the Bearstangs countered with several standout individual swims at the top.

The meet opened with an early statement in the 200 Medley Relay, as the Storm Hawks’ A relay of Izyndro Warain, Owen Larson, Sam Kvam, and Ayden Pana touched first in 1:41.71, setting the tone. Breck/Blake stayed within striking distance behind Bennett O’Halloran, Jackson Wright, Alex Du, and Ben Sznewajs, but Chanhassen–Chaska’s relay depth immediately paid dividends.

Breck/Blake found an early highlight in the 200 Freestyle when Teddy Frerichs surged to the win in 1:46.89. The Storm Hawks answered with a strong group behind him, led by Andon Schoenberger (1:54.01) and Bryson Hougas (1:55.64), preventing the Bearstangs from gaining momentum.

The 200 IM proved pivotal as Breck/Blake swept the top two spots behind Jackson Wright (2:05.63) and Daniel March (2:08.15), but Chanhassen–Chaska stayed in control by stacking points with Eli Melquist, Noah Swanson, and Owen Schneider, keeping the overall score trending their way.

Sprint speed swung the meet decisively in favor of the Storm Hawks in the 50 Freestyle. Ethan Burd captured the win in 22.59, followed closely by teammate Joey Petersen (23.10), as Chanhassen–Chaska outscored Breck/Blake in one of the night’s biggest point swings.

The Storm Hawks extended their lead on the boards, where Micah Brecht delivered a dominant diving performance to win with a score of 225.00. Teammate Casey Person added a strong second-place finish, further widening the gap.

Butterfly racing produced one of the closest head-to-head battles of the night. Teddy Frerichs doubled back to win the 100 Fly for Breck/Blake in 51.61, but Chanhassen–Chaska answered with depth as Sam Kvam, Gavin Rasmussen, and Gabe Currie all scored to keep the Storm Hawks firmly in front.

Chanhassen–Chaska controlled the 100 Freestyle, sweeping the top three spots behind Ethan Burd (48.89), Izyndro Warain (49.13), and Logan Storms (51.99). The sweep proved decisive as the meet moved into the distance events.

Breck/Blake countered in the 500 Freestyle with a strong win from Jackson Wright, who touched first in 4:56.18. The Storm Hawks limited the damage with Eli Melquist finishing second (4:59.04) and Ayden Pana placing third (5:18.57), maintaining their advantage.

Relay racing continued to favor Chanhassen–Chaska. The Storm Hawks’ A team of Warain, Storms, Burd, and Petersen claimed the 200 Free Relay in 1:32.16, ahead of Breck/Blake’s A relay (1:34.91), adding more separation on the scoreboard.

The backstroke and breaststroke events sealed the outcome. Sam Kvam won the 100 Backstroke in 54.55, while Izyndro Warain captured the 100 Breaststroke in 59.61, with additional Storm Hawks scorers filling out the field and preventing any late push from the Bearstangs.

Chanhassen–Chaska closed the night in style with a victory in the 400 Free Relay. The quartet of Ethan Burd, Andon Schoenberger, Joey Petersen, and Sam Kvam touched first in 3:22.36, putting an exclamation point on the Storm Hawks’ team win.
