Gophers Close Out Day One of Women’s Big Ten Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota women’s swimming and diving program closed out day one of the 2026 Women’s Big Ten Championships today, collecting a sixth place finish in the 200 medley relay and an eighth place finish in the 800 free relay at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center.

 

The Gophers started off the first session of the four day meet in the 200 medley relay, with a team of Ava Yablonski, Ava Goodno, Morgan Thomas, and Livi Wanner. Yablonski frontlined the effort with a 23.85 split, followed by a 27.43 effort from Goodno. Thomas tallied a 23.01 time before Wanner anchored the event with a 21.85 for a total relay time of 1:36.14 and a sixth place finish.

 

Minnesota continued the afternoon with an eighth place finish in the 800 free relay. Anja Kaljevic started things off in the event with a 1:45.99 split, followed by a split of 1:46.30 from sibling Mina Kaljevic. Katie McCarthy continued the effort with a split time of 1:45.22, with Livi Wanner anchoring her second event with a time of 1:47.43 for a total finish time of 7:04.94.

 

The Gophers sit in seventh place in team standings with 92 total points after the first two events. The University of Michigan stands at the top of the standings with a total of 128 points.

 

Day two action is set to kickoff tomorrow from the Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center at 10:00 AM.
