MINNEAPOLIS – The Carleton College men’s swimming & diving team moved into second place after three days of competition at the MIAC Championships. Leading the way on Friday, was diver Hans Anderson, who won the 1-meter competition to sweep both boards for the second consecutive year. That led six all-conference performances for the Knights on the day.
Carleton entered Friday in third place, 4.5 points behind Saint John’s. By day’s end the Knights had moved 53.5 points ahead of the Johnnies.
Carson Rotter and Matthew Krogman earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention after both clocked collegiate bests in the finals as the duo finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 400-yard IM. Rotter touched the wall at 4:11.46, while Krogman covered the distance in 4:13.83. John Rosseel turned in a season best as he won the “B” final with a time of 4:18.20.
The Knights jumped over Saint John’s in the team standings after the 100-yard butterfly as Carleton had five swimmers race in the finals and outscored the Johnnies 46-0 in the event. Jackson Rankin was the runner-up with a time of 50.05. He clocked a personal best 49.88 during the morning’s preliminary round. Warren Kozack took home All-MIAC Honorable Mention after he took fourth at 50.54, only 0.03 off his personal best established earlier in the day. Neil Tollefson (collegiate best 51.93), Noah Lee (52.44), and Aiden Johnson (53.59) raced in the “B” final and finished 10th, 11th, and 16th, respectively.
Thor Pearson and Leif Petricka were the top two finishers in the 200-yard freestyle “B” final. Pearson was ninth overall with a collegiate-best 1:45.47, while Petricka took 10th at 1:46.30.
Alex Lee led four Carleton scorers in the 100-yard breaststroke. He clocked a collegiate-best 57.98 in the prelims before placing seventh at 58.64 in the finals. Cam Newton won the “B” final with a collegiate-best time of 58.68. Luke Schmitzer was 10th with a new collegiate best of 59.10, while Jeffrey Kong finished 13th at 1:00.23.
Nicholas Chang secured All-MIAC Honorable Mention after finishing sixth in the 100-yard backstroke at 52.66. Dawson Lee (collegiate-best 54.24), Rankin (55.00), and Aaron Zhao (55.33) placed 10th, 12th, and 13th, respectively. Rankin bested his previous personal best with his time of 54.72 in the morning session.
After surging for the top spot in the 3-meter competition on Wednesday, Anderson scored 476.15 in the preliminary round before tallying 446.10 points in the finals. Jesse Lindholm took seventh with a scored of 328.50
The day wrapped up with the 200-yard freestyle relay where Kozak, Tollefson, Noah Lee, and Petricka posted a time of 1:25.34 while taking third place.
Up Next for the Knights
The MIAC Championships conclude on Saturday with racing to include the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 1650-yard freestyle, and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Once again, prelims begin at 10:30 a.m. with finals slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.
