MINNEAPOLIS – Carson Rotter’s all-conference performance in the 500-yard freestyle led the way for the Carleton College men’s swimming & diving team on Day 2 of the MIAC Championships. The Knights are now third in the team standings.
Rotter was seeded seventh after the prelims but earned All-MIAC status in the 500 freestyle after finishing third with a collegiate-best time of 4:43.66. Matthew Krogman and Luke Schmitzer also raced in the “A” final, placing seventh and eighth, respectively, after posting times of 4:48.00 and 4:48.44. Krogman (4:46.55) and Schmitzer (4:47.60) established collegiate bests during the morning prelims.
The Knights had five point scorers in the 200-yard IM. Nicholas Chang finished eighth at 2:00.30, Thor Pearson was 11th in a collegiate-best 1:59.52, Alex Lee took 12th at 1:59.76, Cam Newton placed 13th at 2:00.60, and Jeffrey Kong was 16th at 2:04.27. Newton set a collegiate best with his prelims time of 1:59.16.
Carleton had three swimmers in the “B” final of the 50-yard freestyle: Neil Tollefson (12th at 21.63), Warren Kozack (tied for 13th at a collegiate-best 21.68), and Noah Lee (16th at 21.80). Tollefson bested his previous collegiate best by more than a half-second (21.34) during the preliminary round.
The Knights were fifth in the 400-yard medley relay as Chang, Alex Lee, Jackson Rankin, and Tollefson combined on a time of 3:28.19.

Day 3 of the MIAC Championships includes competition in the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 1-meter diving, and 200-yard freestyle relay. Prelims begin at 10:30 a.m. with finals slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.
