NSIC S&D Day Four: Dragons Finish in Seventh Place

WEST FARGO, N.D. – Minnesota State Moorhead wrapped up competition at the NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday. The Dragons finished in seventh place as a team with 364 total points, the highest tally since the 2018-19 season. 
 
Ruth Pavelski would begin action in the morning for Moorhead, qualifying for the C-final in the 100-yard IM. Pavelski swam a season best 1:01.85 to earn the spot in the evening session. The junior would swim a 1:02.02 to place eighth in the finals session. 
 
Maggie Moore would also qualify for an evening final behind a personal best 52.52 in the 100-yard freestyle. Moore’s time qualified her for the championship final with the mark sitting as the seventh-fastest in program history. The Mesa, Ariz., native would improve that time to 52.09 in the finals to finish fourth overall. Moore now owns the fourth-fastest time in program history. 
 
Sophia Verke would earn a spot in the B-final of the same event with a time of 52.78. Verke would win the B-final behind an improved time of 52.35. Tresa Baumgard (56.0) would register a personal best in the same event preliminaries. 
 
In the 200-yard backstroke preliminaries, Kelsey Jackson would qualify for the C-final with a time of 2:09.16. Jackson would turn in a personal best swim in the finals, winning the heat with a time of 2:07.23. The mark moves Jackson into third all-time in MSUM history. Adrianna Sullivan (2:15.68) would collect a new personal best in the same event’s preliminaries. 
 
Rose Urick would earn a spot in the championship final of the 200-yard breaststroke to wrap the morning session. Urick owned the second-fastest preliminary time, marking a personal best 2:23.38. The swim for the sophomore was the fourth-fastest in MSUM history. Urick would place fifth in the championship final behind a time of 2:24.51. Haley Stainbrook (2:52.69) would clock a new personal best in the event prelims. 
 
The 1650-yard freestyle would see Anika Grunenwald (19:06.30) and Claire Schlaefer (19:49.74) each set personal bests. 
 
In 1-meter diving preliminaries, Isabelle Johnson would lead the Dragons with an 11-dive score of 388.75. Johnson would qualify for the championship final as did Zoe Bjerke behind a score of 359.05. Johnson (363.95) would place seventh in the championship final with Bjerke (363.90) finishing eighth. 
 
Ruth Guy (325.15) and Kennedy Olson (330.25) would earn spots in the B-final. Olson placed fourth in the B-final with a score of 341.20 while Guy placed seventh behind a score of 329.45. 
 
To conclude the meet, Moorhead’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Moore, Pavelski, Joanna Phillips and Verke would place sixth in the A-final with a season best time of 3:34.11. MSUM’s team of Sarah Coe, Schlaefer, Sullivan and Stainbrook would place sixth in the B-final with a season best effort of 3:41.89.
