NSIC S&D Day Two: Johnson Turns in Massive Day For Dragons

WEST FARGO, N.D. – Minnesota State Moorhead swimming & diving saw an All-NSIC performance from senior Isabelle Johnson in 3-meter diving to lead the Dragon efforts on day two of the NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships. Moorhead sits in fifth place on the team leaderboard with 216 points. 
 
Zoe Bjerke and Isabelle Johnson would lead the Dragons in 3-meter diving competition Thursday morning. Both competitors would secure spots in the championship final with Bjerke securing a score of 400.65 with Johnson scoring a 390.85. The senior Johnson would qualify despite hitting the board on one of her attempts.

Johnson would channel that miscue into a stirring performance in the evening’s championship final. The Alexandria, Minn., native compiled a finals score of 431.40, a new personal best and the third-best 11-dive count in program history. Johnson would place runner-up to earn All-NSIC honors, becoming the first Dragon diver since 2019 to collect all-conference distinction. The score also marks an NCAA provisonal number, locking Johnson into the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Bjerke would also turn in a strong score of 409.05 to place fifth in the final session. 
 
Kennedy Olson (337.05) and Ruth Guy (327.20) would earn spots in the B-final of the 3-meter dive. Guy (346.35) would place fourth in the final while Olson (345.70) would finish in fifth. 

Fernanda Leon would earn a spot in the evening’s championship final of the 400-yard IM. Leon would place seventh overall in preliminary action, swimming a 4:37.57. The final heat would see Leon place eighth overall, marking a time of 4:37.73. 
 
In the morning’s 100-yard fly preliminaries, Cami Mayo would qualify for the C-final for the Dragons, clocking a 59.54. Mayo would place seventh in the evening race, marking an improved time of 59.32. 
 
To wrap up the morning action in the pool, Maggie Moore would qualify for the B-final in the 200-yard freestyle. Moore clocked a preliminary time of 1:56.88 to secure the spot in the evening session. Moore would win the B-final in the evening session behind a personal best swim of 1:54.74. The effort for Moore improves on the third-fastest time in MSUM history. Also in the preliminary swims, Anika Grunenwald (2:00.58), Sarah Coe (2:05.86) and Tresa Baumgard (2:10.19) would all set personal bests in the same event. 

MSUM’s 400-yard medley relay team of Kelsey Jackson, Rose Urick, Ruth Pavelski and Sophia Verke would earn fourth-place marks in the championship final, swimming a season best 3:55.42. Moorhead would also place fourth in the B-final as the team of Lacie Stark, Mayo, Leon and Moore would clock a season best 4:01.04. 
 
The NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships continue tomorrow at 10 a.m.
