HOLLAND, Mich. – The St. Cloud State Men’s Swim & Dive team earned one conference championship and three all-conference finishes at the first day of competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Friday in Holland, Mich. In the team standings, the Huskies scored 152.5 points and are in fourth place. SCSU has had six NCAA B-cut times/scores on the day.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team took home the first conference championship of the meet for the Huskies, with junior Reid Tigges (Spencer, Iowa), junior Justin Rowles (Plymouth, Minn.), junior Piotr Kowalczyk (Warsaw, Poland) and senior Mason Beck (Dickinson, N.D.) finishing at 1:18.33. SCSU’s 200-yard medley relay earned a runner-up finish with Kowalczyk, sophomore Marcus Walker (Santa Clarita, Calif.), junior Lance Godard (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) and Beck finishing at 1:26.55 for an NCAA B-cut time.
SCSU had a trio of top-eight finishers in the 50-yard freestyle, with Beck finishing third at 19.91, Tigges finishing sixth at 19.98 and Kowalczyk finishing eighth at 20.14. All three were NCAA B-cut times, with Rowles joining at 20.09. In the 1-meter dive, junior Jimmy Nord (Chisago City, Minn.) produced a NCAA B-cut score with 449.90 points.
