Widerstrom Tallies Victory in 1-Meter on Day Two of Women’s Big Ten Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota women’s swimming and diving program completed day two of competition at the 2026 Women’s Big Ten Championships today, with Elna Widerstrom taking the gold in the one meter diving event for Minnesota’s first individual event win of the meet.

 

Junior Morgan Thomas posted a 14th place finish in the 100 fly to start off the finals session for Minnesota, tallying a time of 52.71. Rachel Conley finished in 20th overall, posting a personal best time of 52.85.

 

Junior Katie McCarthy met the NCAA qualifying standard to take eighth overall in the 400 IM, beating her personal best from last year’s conference championships with a 4:10.02. Grace Drabot tallied a personal best and NCAA qualifying standard for herself as well in the event, earning a 4:09.66 in the “B” final for 11th place overall.

 

Anja Kaljevic served as Minnesota’s only competitor in the 200 free event, swimming to a time of 1:46.03 for 14th overall.

 

Keira Mullins was the sole competitor for the Gophers in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with a personal best time of 1:01.61 in the “C” final for 22nd place overall.

 

Junior Elna Widerstrom claimed her first Big Ten Championship title in the 1-meter diving event, tallying a personal best of 336.95 to win Minnesota’s first individual event of the meet. Vivi Del Angel posted a 4th place finish in the event, tallying a score of 311.95. Addie Albrecht and Gabby Mauder finished off the event effort for the Gophers, finishing in 14th and 17th with scores of 267.00 and 249.10 respectively.

 

The Gophers closed out the day with a seventh place finish in the 200 free relay. Wanner started the effort with a 21.97 split, followed by Morgan Thomas who posted a 21.84. Mina Kaljevic notched a 22.46 time before Ava Yablonksi closed out the race with a split of 22.13.

 

After two days of competition, the University of Minnesota moved up to sixth in the team standings with a total team score of 290. The University of Michigan remains at the top of the team leaderboards with a score of 517.50. 

 

Day three of the 2026 Women’s Big Ten Championships is set to begin tomorrow at 10:00 AM (CT) from the Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center.
