Women’s Swim & Dive Maintains First Place After Strong Second Day at MIAC Championship

MINNEAPOLIS – The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s swimming and diving team is competing this week in the MIAC Championship. Hosted at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus, the four-day championship runs February 11-14.
 
On the evening of the second day of the championship, the Gusties continued their success from the opening day to improve their team score to 252 points; keeping them in first place atop the conference field heading into day three. St. Olaf follows with 242 points as the current runner-up. Macalester rounds out the top three with 210.5 points.
 
Annika Beck led Gustavus on day two with a first-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle. The first year won the race with a time of 5:06.82, surpassing her previous personal record and top-MIAC time this season of 5:12.53.
 
Katelyn Siers led the Gusties in the 50 yard freestyle. The sophomore placed third with a time of 24.09, which beat her previous personal record by 0.10 seconds.
 
Madison Witte had the top Gustavus finish in the 200 yard IM, placing fourth with a time of 2:12.15.
 
The 400 yard medley relay team of Geneva Fackler, Lindsay Sundby, Witte, and Stella Anderson Moye took fourth in the race, finishing in 3:55.82.
 
Gabriella Stoudt placed eighth in the one-meter dive, scoring 340.05.
 
Up next for Gustavus is day three of the MIAC Championships this Friday, February 13. The scheduled women’s finals events for the evening session beginning at 6:30 p.m. are the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and the 200 free relay.
