Section 2A loses a deep and decorated senior class, none more accomplished than Benilde-St Margaret’s Emma Rudowsky, who won both the 100 Fly and 500 Free at sections and went on to claim the Class A state title in the 500. The Blake School graduates a pair of section champions in Hayden Wert and Mercy March, while perennial power Breck says goodbye to several of its scoring veterans. Their departures reshape the top of a section that still runs deep with returning talent.
Section Outlook
Breck School brings back enough firepower to defend its section crown despite heavy graduation. Senior Anna Russ headlines the returners as the section’s top sprinter, winning the 100 Free and taking 2nd in the 50 Free. Senior Amelia Wachs is a versatile distance and IM threat, placing 2nd in the 200 IM and 2nd in the 500 Free, while sophomore Arezou Razmpour announced herself with a 5th in the 50 Free and 5th in the 100 Free. Senior Max Vollmer scored in both the 100 Breast (4th) and 500 Free (4th), and sophomore Kayla Proman placed in the 200 Free (6th) and 100 Breast (8th). Senior Lucy Wissink (7th 200 Free, 7th 500 Free), senior Helen Liu (3rd 100 Back, 6th 50 Free), and senior Lucinda Lentini (8th 100 Fly) add further depth. Freshman Caroline Rathke gives the Mustangs a rising diver after a 2nd-place section finish on the boards.
The Blake School loses its two section champions but reloads with a strong returning core. Freshman Finley Lorence is the centerpiece, already a section scorer in the 200 IM (7th) and 100 Back (4th) and a key relay leg, swimming like a veteran well ahead of her grade. Senior Larsen Winternheimer placed 3rd in the 100 Breast, and senior Olivia Besikof contributed in the 100 Fly (6th). Junior Megan Wang added sprint depth with an 8th in the 100 Free, and sophomore Lily Guerrera is one to watch after placing 3rd in the 200 Free and 6th in the 500 Free. The Bears have the youth and balance to stay near the top.
Benilde-St Margaret’s graduates state champion Emma Rudowsky but returns a promising young nucleus. Freshman Samantha Lamers is the standout, scoring in both the 200 IM (5th) and 100 Breast (2nd) and reaching the state meet in the breaststroke—a remarkable showing for a swimmer her age. Junior Madeline Kirkvold is a reliable distance and freestyle scorer, placing 2nd in the 200 Free and 3rd in the 500 Free, and sophomore Clara Moroney scored in the 100 Back (8th). The Red Knights are well positioned to climb with their underclassmen leading the way.
St Anthony Village returns a balanced lineup led by two of the section’s brightest young talents. Sophomore Ferris Martin is the headliner, taking 1st in the 100 Back and 4th in the 100 Free before earning a runner-up finish in the backstroke at state. Senior Emmie Rengstorf gives the team a championship piece on the boards, winning the section diving title, with senior Anna Aman right behind her in 3rd. Senior Eleanor Pitts scored in the 100 Back (6th) and 50 Free (6th), and sophomore Abigail Hert added a 6th in the 100 Breast. With Martin and the divers leading the way, the Huskies have building blocks worth watching.
St Louis Park returns senior Adeline Berg as its lone top-8 returning scorer, who placed 7th in the 100 Back and anchored the team’s relays. The Orioles graduate two of their IM scorers and will lean on Berg and a developing group to rebuild their depth in 2026.
Minneapolis Southwest returns a young, developing group. Freshman Margot Bryan is the swimmer to build around after placing 8th in the 200 Free as one of the section’s promising underclassmen, and junior Charlotte Schueth scored in the 200 IM (8th). With its core largely intact, Southwest has a foundation to grow on.
Bloomington Kennedy leans on returning junior Kaylee Von Ruden, the team’s clear standout, who placed 3rd in the 100 Free and 2nd in the 100 Back before reaching the state meet in the backstroke. Von Ruden gives the Eagles a genuine difference-maker to build around in 2026.
Fridley did not have an individual top-8 finisher return and will look to its young, relay-driven group to build depth in the seasons ahead.
