Lexi Weems named NSIC Swimmer of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University sophomore Lexi Weems has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday following her results last weekend in a dual versus Western Colorado University.
 
Weems, a native of Blue Springs, Mo., had a strong day on Saturday winning a pair of individual events, while also capturing first-place in two relay races.
 
Weems won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.36, while also earning first-place in the 100-yard freestyle touching the wall at 52.61, setting a new Western Colorado pool record in the process and the second fastest in SMSU history. Both times also rank first in the NSIC this season.
 
She was also anchor on SMSU’s first-place 200-yard medley relay team that set a pool record with a time of 1:47.30 and was anchor on the 200-yard freestyle relay that set a pool record with a time of 1:39.77.
 
Weems, a 2024 graduate of Blue Springs High School, is the third SMSU swimmer earn the NSIC weekly award since the program was started prior to the 2019-20 season.
