
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women’s swimming & diving team began the 2025-26 season with a dual meet victory over the College of Saint Benedict Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool. The Scots scored 167 points to 132 for the Bennies.
Macalester won eight individual events, including victories by first year Ainsley Kashatus (Washington, D.C./Holton Arms School) in the diving events. Kashatus won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 225.20 and placed first on the 3-meter board with a score of 257.05.
Senior Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) and sophomore Molly Nuckolls (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) also won two events each. Uhlhorn-Thornton was first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.75 and won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.47. Nuckolls placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:07.60) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.17), while also taking second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.95). Sophomore Amalia Shields (Madison, Wis./Madison West) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.14), finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (56.20) and was third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.30). Sophomore Maya Téllez (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.37) and finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.19).
Other top three finishes were turned in by senior Nadia Lanz (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), who was second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.51) and third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.94); sophomore Carolyn Wolking (Micanopy, Fla./Santa Fe College), who took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.45) and the 200 breaststroke (2:38.57); first year Jay Young (Arlington, Va.), who was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:12.04) and third in the 200 IM (2:21.93); first year Poppy Wedding (Madison, Wis./Middleton), who finished second in the 200 IM (2:21.21) and third in the 200 freestyle (2:07.38); senior Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson), who took second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.89) and third in the 200 butterfly; first year Harper Matsumoto (Seattle, Wash./Nathan Hale), who finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.82) and third in the 100 freestyle (57.21); senior Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith), who took second in the 200 backstroke; and junior Megan Chopskie (Cloquet, Minn./Esko), who was third in the 50 freestyle (25.87).
The Scots closed out the meet with the foursome of Henry, Uhlhorn-Thornton, Chopskie and Matsumoto winning the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.56.
Macalester returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 8 with a meet at Carleton in Northfield, Minn.
