Johnnies Earn Three Wins in Dual Loss to Division II St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John’s dropped a dual to Division II St. Cloud State, 204-93, on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Halenbeck Hall Pool.

SJU won three events and totaled 13 top-three performances. 

A three-time MIAC Athlete of the Week already this season, senior Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska) won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:40.22 – six seconds faster than the next Husky in second place. Slavik also finished second in the 200-yard version with a time of 1:46.06. 

Senior Clay Megaw (Monticello, Minn.) won the other individual event for SJU, touching the wall first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 27.93. 

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of senior Carsten Reuter (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech), freshman Vincent Schulze (Eden Prairie, Minn.), freshman Braydon Ohrtman (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and freshman David Lammers (Willmar, Minn.) finished first with a 1:29.81. They led an SJU podium in the event, as the Johnnies claimed second (1:35.25) and third (1:37.38). 

Ohrtman added a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing in 10:47.27. 

Freshman Lincoln Cochran (Helena, Mont./Capital) finished third behind Ohrtman with a time of 11:06.47 and added another third place in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:04.91. 

Junior Trevor Barton (Buffalo, Minn.) took third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.60) behind Slavik, while Lammers finished third in the 50-yard butterfly (24.87).

Junior Cody Watts (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) and senior Tim Rotter (Blaine, Minn.) led Saint John’s on the boards. Watts took third in the 6-dive 1-meter with a 281.60 and fourth in the 6-dive 3-meter with a 192.75. Rotter was third in the 3-meter (202.85) and fourth in the 1-meter (216.50).

The Johnnies return to the pool for SCSU’s Rochester Invitational on Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 4-6, in Rochester. Prelims begin at 9 a.m., followed by finals at 5 p.m., each day.
