Shakopee Survives Late Farmington Push to Win 93–90

Shakopee and Farmington delivered a back-and-forth dual Friday night that stayed undecided until the final relay, with Shakopee ultimately slipping past Farmington 93–90 behind clutch finishes in the sprint events and just enough relay depth to hold on.

Shakopee set the early tone in the 200 Medley Relay as Ethan Gens, Alex Friendshuh, Jack Fritz, and Luke Gens combined for a win in 1:46.24, narrowly ahead of Farmington’s A relay (1:48.52). That early edge proved important in a meet where points were at a premium from start to finish.

The Sabers added momentum in the 200 Freestyle, where Charlie Cutts III delivered a strong victory in 1:50.86. Farmington answered immediately with Eli Montgomery placing second (1:57.46) and additional depth from Eli Gobar, keeping the meet tight.

Farmington countered in the 200 IM as Hantruy Nguyen took control for the win in 2:03.76, holding off Alex Friendshuh (2:08.70). Shakopee limited the swing with multiple scorers, preventing Farmington from grabbing a clear advantage.

Sprint speed stayed evenly matched in the 50 Freestyle. Luke Gens won for Shakopee in 22.97, just ahead of Farmington’s Tyler West (23.05), while both teams stacked points through the middle of the field.

Farmington gained ground on the boards, led by Emilio Loza, who captured the varsity diving win with a score of 150.20. Shakopee’s Deklan Graff followed in second (133.20), keeping the margin within reach.

The Falcons surged in the 100 Butterfly, sweeping the top two spots behind Justin Raymond (57.80) and Daniel Budde (1:00.07), briefly pulling Farmington into the lead. Shakopee responded with key points from Jack Fritz and Brady Antony to stay within striking distance.

Shakopee answered decisively in the 100 Freestyle. Charlie Cutts III doubled back for another win in 49.69, followed closely by Ethan Gens (50.53), swinging momentum back to the Sabers.

One of the night’s biggest races came in the 500 Freestyle, where Hantruy Nguyen earned his second individual win for Farmington in 5:05.55. Shakopee stayed close with Luke Gens (5:09.19) and Nick Fitzgerald (5:11.36) finishing right behind him, limiting the damage.

Farmington grabbed a critical win in the 200 Free Relay, as West, Raymond, Montgomery, and Nguyen touched first in 1:34.39, edging Shakopee’s A relay (1:35.30) and setting up a dramatic finish.

The meet swung again in the 100 Backstroke when Ethan Gens delivered a clutch win for Shakopee in 58.22, out-touching Daniel Budde (59.85). That result proved pivotal as the teams entered the final events nearly even.

Shakopee picked up another key win in the 100 Breaststroke behind Alex Friendshuh, who touched first in 1:04.28, while Farmington stayed close through Collin Hawkins (1:08.86).

Everything came down to the 400 Free Relay. Farmington closed strong with a victory in 3:27.21, but Shakopee’s A relay finished second (3:33.57) and collected enough points to seal the dual.
