
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men’s swimming & diving team competed against Grinnell College in the final home dual meet of the season Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool. Grinnell outscored the Scots, 176-99 in the team scoring.
Two Scots earned first-place finishes in the individual swimming events. Junior Thomas Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) captured the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.88. Senior Will St. John (McGaheysville, Va./East Rockingham) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:13.23. He also was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.57. In the diving events, first year Miles Remmel (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) finished first on both the 1-meter and the 3-meter diving boards.
Sophomore Kean Pajarillaga (Saipan, Marianas Pacific/Grace Christian Academy) posted a pair of second-place finishes, taking second in the 100-yard backstroke (53.73) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.01). He also took third in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.29. Sophomore Max Taufen (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.53). Taufen also was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.07. First year Mason Saunders (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:17.71.
First year Edward Barnes (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) earned two third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.28) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.06). Senior TJ Palli (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) took third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.21. Sophomore Tilghman Overton was third in the 1000 freestyle (11:39.08), and first year Isaac Snaza (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) took third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.33).
Macalester competes at the University of Minnesota First Chance Invite on Feb. 6-7 in the final tune-up before the MIAC Championships.
