Men’s Swim & Dive Wins Both Opening Night Relays at MIAC Championship

MINNEAPOLIS – The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s swimming and diving team is competing this week in the MIAC Championship. Hosted at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus, the four-day championship runs February 11-14.

The Gusties won both relay events in the opening night of the championship on Wednesday to secure third place in the championship standings after the first day with 80 points. Saint John’s leads the conference field with 107 points with Carleton on their heels with 105.

The Gustavus team of Josh Wallin, Braden Ripken, Aiden Carlson, and Logan Braley won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:30.28. The Gusties finished far ahead of their competitors in the race with the runner-up Macalester finishing 3.90 seconds later.

Logan Cyr, Declan Vahey, Charles Newton, and Aidynn Havermann won the 800 freestyle relay for the Gusties. The team placed first with a time of 6:50.13, finishing just 0.25 seconds ahead of runner-up Saint John’s.

Up next for Gustavus is day two of the MIAC Championships this Thursday, February 12. The scheduled finals events for the evening session beginning at 6:30 p.m. are the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and the 400 medley relay.
