It was a big morning for Minnesota swimmers at the Indy Spring Cup with the 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Butterfly, and 400 IM prelims in the morning session. “The energy is great. You can tell people are excited to be hear competing” commented Aquajets swimmer Graycin Andreen.

The women’s 200 Freestyle included 15 Minnesota club swimmers representing Aquajets, Edina Swim Club, and the Rochester Swim Club. Kaite McCarthy, Edina, picked up right where she left off from the opening session, cruising to a heat win in 2:02.55 to secure the 4th seed in tonight’s finals. Part of Minnesota’s 15-year-old crew represented well with Libbi McCarthy (EDI) and Graycin Andreen(AQJT) both dropping over two seconds from their entry times finishing in 2:07.66 and 2:07.82 respectively and Julie Ogren (Rochester) and Francis Muir (Aquajets) also establishing personal bests.

Four Minnesota women entered the 100 Breaststroke, with Olivia Anderson and Grace Rabb, both of the Aquajets, qualifying for tonight’s B-final in 1:12.12 and 1:13.56 respectively. Ava Allingham, also from the Aquajets, qualified for this evening’s C-final with a personal best 1:15.33.

In the women’s 100 Butterfly, the Aquajets’ Emma Kern finished in a personal best time of 1:01.50, qualifying her for tonight’s B final. Carly Bixby, also from Aquajets, posted a time of 1:03.33 to earn a swim in the C final of the event. Sigrid Nymo (EDI), Libby Bakker (AQJT), and Rachel Broadhead (AQJT) all dropped more than a second from their entry times in the event.

The Rochester men were Minnesota’s lone competitors in the men’s 100 Butterfly. Thomas Parlette (58.47) led the way, with Jayden Edmundson (59.19) dropping time in his second event of the day.

Katie McCarthy stayed hot, wrapping up prelims in the 400 IM with the top time of 4:50.74. Like the 800 freestyle last night, McCarthy’s time is less than a second away from the Olympic trials qualifying standard. Francis Muir, Aquajets, earned a spot in tonight’s C final with a time of 5:07.64.
