2023 Winter Junior Nationals – Day Four

The fun events cap off the meet on the final day. Sure there’s the 100 Free, but also the 200 Back, 200 Breast, 200 Fly and 1650!

200 Back
The Minnesota crew started off the meet with a bang with Aquajets’ Grace Rabb grabbing the top seed for finals with a pool record time of 1:53.82. Rabb continued to drop time in the finals session with an amazing 1:52.13, which would place her second in the finals, just 0.18 seconds behind Teagan O’Dell. St. Croix’s Torun McGillis placed 30th in prelims with a time of 2:00.30, Aquajets’ Libby Bakker was 47th with a time of 2:01.60 and Aquajets’ Frances Muir placed 75th with a time of 2:04.73.

Storm’s Ethan Kosin was the only finals qualifier from the morning session on the men’s side. Kosin was 11th after a prelims swim of 1:46,02 and followed that up with a finals swim of 1:45.80, which was good for 12th place. Luke Logue (Aquajets) placed 38th with a 1:48.67, Patrick Curran (Riptide) was 44th with a 1:49.43, and Nathan Carr (Aquajets) was 74th with a time of 1:55.86

100 Free
Caroline Larsen of Foxjets placed 2nd in the prelims session with a time of 48.88. Larsen was unfortunately disqualified in finals. Edina’s Adalynn Biegler made it into the C final after prelims, placing 23rd with a time of 50.38. In finals, Biegler would drop a little time and move up to a spot into 22nd. Her finals time was 50.21. Also participating in prelims was Arianna Zelen (Storm) 50.79 (46th), Avery Luedke (Aquajets) 51.11 (63rd), Libbi McCarthy (Edina) 51.46 (88th), Paige Moreen (Foxjets) 51.48 (90th), Julia Ogren (Rochester) 52.49 (144th) Carly Bixby (Aquajets) 52.65 (148th), and Annabelle Wentzel (Aquajets) 53.45 (150th)

Plenty of men in the 100 Free as well, with Connor hogan of Aquajets being the only finals qualifier. Hogan placed 9th in prelims with a time of 44.61 and 12th in finals with a time of 44,54. Andrew Hanson (Mako) placed 26th in prelims with a time of 45.09, made it into the C finals and swam a 45.21, which was good enough for 22nd place. Henry Webb (Aquajets) 45.79 (58th), Micah Davis (Aquajets) 45.82 (59th), Evan Witte (Minnetonka) 56.07 (66th) and Drew Ploof (Aquajets) 46.20 (80th) also competed in the prelims.

200 Breast
Grace Rabb grabbed another finals swim placing 11th after prelims with a a time of 2:13.74. Rabb placed 16th in the finals with a time of 2:17. 92. Cate Pawlaski placed 36th with a 2:17.89 for Edina, Ava Allingham was 81st with a 2:26.78 for Aquajets, and Arianna Zelen of storm was 82nd with a 2:29.30

Isidore Warain of Aquajets was the lone finalist for the men’s side. Warain was 22nd after prelims with a time of 2:01.78 and in the finals, he placed 24th in a time of 2:02.49. Jack Hackler (Aquajets) placed 44th in 2:03.18, Rohan D’Souza Larson (Edina) placed 45th in 2:03.29, Cash Walz (Aquajets) was 58th in 2:03.97, and Cooper Krance (Storm) placed 117th in 2:10.19

200 Fly
Only a couple swims on the women’s side for the 200 Fly. Aquajets’ Carly Bixby placed 37th with a time of 2:05.68 and teammate Annabelle Wentzel finished 41st with a time of 2:06.93.

For the men, Micah Davis of Aquajets made it into the A final with a 7th place finish in prelims in a time of 1:46.93. In the finals session, he finished 8th in 1:48.48. Drew Ploof (Aquajets) placed 33rd in 1:49.23, Nathan Carr (Aquajets) was 49th with a time of 1:50.45 and Jayden Edmonson (Rochester) was 60th with a time of 1:51.24.

1650 Free
Avery Luedke of Aquajets netted a top 8 finish in the mile. Luedke placed 7th with a time of 16:37.57. The other three Minnesota ladies in the event managed to place 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. Frances Muir (Edina) 17:06.60, Ellie Bina (North Suburban) 17:08.43, and Ivy Solt (Aquajets) 17:09.08

Jiarui Xue also earned a 7th place finish for the Aquajets on the men’s side. Xue’s time was 15:22.45. Andrew Hanson of Mako also placed in the event with a 15th place finish and a time of 15:30.91

400 Free Relay
In the women’s event, the only Minnesota team was from Aquajets. The team of Grace Rabb (51.30), Avery Luedke (52.12), Carly Bixby (51,54), and Libby Bakker (50.67) placed 16th with a finals time of 3:25.63.

Again, the Aquajets had the only relay team for the final event of the meet. The team of Henry Webb (44.96), Drew Ploof (45.69), Micah Davis (45.01) and Connor Hogan (43.58) finished off their meet with a 3rd place finish with a time of 2:59.24.
