2023 Winter Junior Nationals – Day Three

A very busy day in Westmont for the Minnesota contingent with the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, and 200 Free Relay on the agenda.

400 IM
Ellie Bina for North Suburban was the top Minnesota swimmer in the morning heats with a 41st place finish and a time of 4:28.74. Edina’s Frances Muir was right behind her in 43rd place and a time of 4:29.34. The third and final swimmer was Aquajets’ Ava Allingham, who finished in 53rd with a time of 4:35.13

There were a pair of Minnesota swimmers in the men’s heats with Jiarui Xue making the B finals with a 13th place finish in prelims and a time of 3:56.12. In the finals, Xue dropped another 2.5 seconds to move up to 10th place and finish with a time of 3:53.53. Cash Walz from Aquajets finished 34th in the prelims session with a time of 4:00.13

100 Fly
Caroline Larsen of Foxjets placed 4th in prelims to make the A final with a time of 53.31 and Aquajets’ Grace Rabb made the B final with a 9th place finish and a time of 53.83. Larsen moved up to 2nd in the finals with a time of 52.15 and Rabb held her 9th place spot with a 52.84. Also competing in the prelims was Annabelle Wentzel (Aquajets) 55.23 (37th), Carly Bixby (Aquajets) 55.93 (64th), Adalynn Biegler (Edina) 56.05 (70th), and Cate Pawlaski (Edina) 57.59 (102nd)

Micah Davis of Aquajets was the lone finalist in the 100 Fly. His time of 47.96 placed him 7th in the prelim session and in the finals he finished 8th with a time of 48.08. Four more Minnesota men competed in the event. Drew Ploof (Aquajets) 49.12 (43rd), Evan Witte (Minnetonka) 49.25 (47th), Nathan Carr (Aquajets) 49.34 (52nd) and Grady Evenson (Storm) 50.09 (75th).

200 Free
Avery Luedke of the Aquajets was the top finisher of the Minnesota swimmers in the prelims session, finishing 28th with a time of 1:50.51. Aquajets teammate Ivy Solt placed 50th with a time of 1:51.72 and Edina’s Libbi McCarthy was 59th with a time of 1:52.22. Rounding out the field was Storm’s Arianna Zelen in 64th with a time of 1:52.55 and Rochester’s Julia Ogren in 74th with a time of 1:53.64.

Henry Webb of the Aquajets had a huge prelims swim with a 1:37.65, which tied him for 6th. In the finals, Webb finished 8th with a time of 1:38.50. Rochester’s Jayden Edmonson swam a 1:38.08 in the prelims netting him a B final spot in 15th and Aquajets Connor Hogan placed 24th with a time of 1:38.47. Edmonson had a nice drop in finals, moving up to 10th place with a 1:37.18. Hogan remained in 24th with a finals time of 1:41.45. Other prelim swimmers were Andrew Hanson (Storm) 1:38.95 (31st), Drew Ploof (Aquajets) 1:40.71 (63rd), and Ethan Kosin (Storm) 1:40.81 (67th).

100 Breast
Caroline Larsen continued her rock star meet with a 1:01.17 prelims swim and a finals swim of 1:00.17, which placed her 3rd. Also competing in the prelims session was Cate Pawlaski (Edina) 1:03.54 (43rd), Arianna Zelen (Storm) 1:03.94 (53rd), Catherine Dueck (Minnetonka) 1:04.16 (59th), and Ava Allingham (Aquajets) 1:06.72 (95th)

For the men, Jack Hackler of the Aquajets was the lone finalist. Hackler placed 20th in prelims with a time of 55.23 and 23rd in finals with a time of 55.60. Other Minnesota prelims swimmers were Rohan D’Souza Larson (Edina) 55.63 (27th), Isidore Warain (Aquajets) 55.91 (33rd), Quinlan Schroeder (Riptide) 56.85 (63rd), Cash Walz (Aquajets) 57.01 (69th), and Cooper Krance (Storm) 57.60 (88th).

100 Back
Lots of ladies in the 100 Back today with Grace Rabb continuing her stellar meet. Rabb placed 2nd in prelims with a 52.61 and 3rd in the finals, dropping more time, and finishing with a 52.09. Also in the prelims session was Adalynn Biegler (Storm) 55.28 (40th), Libby Bakker (Aquajets) 55.42 (41st), Torun McGillis (St. Croix) 55.58 (45th), Annabelle Wentzel (Aquajets) 55.97 (53rd, Carly Bixby (Aquajets) 55.99 (55th), Paige Moreen (Foxjets) 56.55 (70th), and Avery Luedke (Aquajets) 57.00 (85th).

For the men, Loke Logue was the top Minnesota finisher with a 6th place finish in prelims with a 48.00. In the A final, he dropped to a 47.28 and moved up to 3rd place. Ethan Kosin of Storm made the C final with a time of 49.09 and moved into 18th in the finals with a nice drop to a 48.61. The other morning competitors were Connor Hogan (Aquajets) 49,46 (34th), Patrick Curran (Riptide) 50.01 (47th), Henry Webb (Aquajets) 50.34 (57th), and Nathan Carr (Aquajets) 51.01 (70th).

200 Free Relay
The Aquajets fielded the only Minnesota team in the event and placed 9th with a finals time of 1:33.17. The team consisted of Grace Rabb (23,35), Annabelle Wentzel (23.24), Carly Bixby (23.49), and Libby Bakker (23.09)

In the men’s relay, the Aquajets again were the only Minnesota team in the field and they placed 4th with a time on 1:21.54. Splits were Connor Hogan (20.03), Henry Webb (20.87), Luke Logue (20.36), and Micah Davis (20.28)
